Cast another Elizabeth using just the air minus, a dry concrete mixture, packing and hammering the mold to vibrate it. Hopefully her head will not fall off again when I demold.
Gah! Today was an interesting day. It began with the de-molding of the second Elizabeth. She had many large bug holes (air holes) on her surface.
So, I did some research on how to eliminate bug holes. Found a great discussion on sculpture.net. I am going to try using a product you add to cement to reduce the air content (Fritz Pack Air Minus) and packing the cement mix instead on vibrating it.
Set the first casting of the two Visitation figures outside.
Also did research casting without air bubbles. And my awesome roommate helped me cast the second Elizabeth by holding the mold upright so I could focus on agitating the mold.
Tried using a tire for a vibrating table to get air bubbles out. No vibrating motor yet. Used hammer. Did not work very well. There is a tire under the plywood.
This morning, my friend Cathi who does pyrography came over to the Frogtown house and facilitated a fun morning of exploring wood burning. Here are a couple of examples of Cathi's work. And the coffee cup which is essential to creative work.
