Night Ship and Pouring the Mold

Put the sky into the colored pencil drawing I started yesterday. Using colored pencils is rather time-consuming.
On the mold-making and casting front: Did three release agent tests. I tried Vaseline, Murphy's Soap, and cooking spray. The Murphy's soap worked best. I applied the undiluted soap to the mold with a wet sponge in several layers, waiting for each layer to dry before applying the next layer.
Having succeeded in making a cast release from the test mold, I poured the actual mold on the original model. Now, I am just waiting for it to cure.

Beginning of Schooner Yacht "Sylph"

Author TBD

Photograph of plaster experiments:
If I rub the mold enough with water and Murphy soap, it is supposed to get a waxy surface that with not bond with the plaster poured into it. So far, no waxy surface. I must be doing it wrong.

Black and White Sailboat and Test Plaster Mold

From a photo of the Madeline, a reconstruction of a 19th century, Great Lakes Schooner

This is a test mold which I am making before actually making a mold of the leaf panel. My intention is to make a plaster mold and cast plaster into it. I have never actually done this without destroying the mold in order to get the final product out. However, I have read that it is possible to do so.

Another Leaf Panel

Yet another interaction of working on a leaf for Sunflower 1.2. This one is 12"x12" and is a bas-relief. I think this might be the beginning of a big detour into bas-relief. I'm still not happy with the leaves, and I don't want to move on until I get them right.

Wooden Tiles and Potpourri Bags in the Making

If anyone had told me this morning that I would be renting a chain saw today, I would not have believed them.
It was an unexpected adventure.
